Heartbleed ImageRecent news regarding the Heartbleed Bug has prompted several of our credit union clients to contact us regarding this potential security threat.  CU Mobile Apps takes security very seriously and understands that this is extremely important to your credit union and members.  We have taken action to ensure that our servers have been upgraded to address this potential security issue within our mobile apps and CU Mobile App Engine even though we do not store your members banking data within our systems.  Rest assured that we are always keeping an eye out for potential security threats to keep your mobile banking app and your members safe.  However, we recommend that our credit union clients contact their online banking providers to insure that appropriate security measures are in place on their end as well.

The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library.  This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet.  SSL/TLS provides communication security and privacy over the Internet for applications such as web, email, instant messaging (IM) and some virtual private networks (VPNs).

The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software.  This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content.  This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users.  You can obtain more information by visiting the Heartbleed Bug website.
